Prayer Guide

Each week, use this simple guide at home or in the church to engage in focused, family-friendly prayer. Create an intentional space and let everyone participate, from kids to adults.

Why Pray?

Prayer is powerful. It activates our faith and strengthens our relationship with God. The habit of prayer helps us to deepen our dependence on him and it shapes our perspective to be more like his. It opens us to what God wants to do in our lives.
There is no skill level or experience required to pray. We all can approach God with our requests, our gratitude, and our concerns knowing that he is capable of doing far more than we could ask or imagine.

Week 1:  Hunger for God

Thank God for being the one who fills our deepest hunger.
"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled". Matthew 5:6
Ask God to stir spiritual hunger in every heart.
Pray for greater intimacy with God.
"I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better". Ephesians 1:17
Prayer
"God, we want more of You. Stir up our hunger to know You. Help us desire Your presence more than anything else."
Family Activity
Write your family's prayer requests and tape them on the fridge or wall.

Week 2:  Pruning + Priorities

Clearing Space for God to Move
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful". John 15:1–2
Ask God for clarity to cut back what’s crowding out God.
Pray for Jesus to Take His Place
"I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better". Ephesians 1:17
Prayer
"Jesus, show us anything that’s taking up space where You belong. Help us let go of what’s not helping us grow closer to You."
Family Activity
Write down or draw the things you want to ‘prune.’ Tear them up as an act of surrender.

Week 3:  A House of Prayer

All Are Welcome
"...these I will bring to my holy mountain and give them joy in my house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on my altar; for my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations". Isaiah 56:7
Dedicate Your Church and Home as Spaces of Prayer
  • Dedicate means to set apart—you're choosing to make these places sacred by consistently inviting God's presence through prayer.
  • Your church represents the larger body of believers. When a church is a space of prayer, it becomes a house of spiritual covering, unity, and power—where needs are lifted, hearts are softened, and God is glorified.
  • Your home is the center of everyday life. Making it a space of prayer means you’re creating an atmosphere where God’s peace, guidance, and presence dwell—from mealtimes and bedtime prayers to spontaneous moments of gratitude or intercession.
Prayer
"Lord, we dedicate our home to You. Let it be a place where Your name is honored and where Your Spirit is welcome."
Family Activity
Take a House Prayer Tour! 🏠
Grab your family and walk room to room, praying together as you go. Bless the spaces where you live, laugh, rest, and gather. From the kitchen to the closet, invite God into every corner of your home!

Week 4:  Presence Over Plans

Not Without You, Lord
"Then Moses said to him, “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here". Exodus 33:15

This verse teaches us that God’s presence is more valuable than His provision. It challenges us to ask:
Do I want what God can give me more than I want God Himself?

It’s a powerful reminder to seek Him above all else—even good outcomes, dreams, or destinations.
Choose Stillness and Surrender Over Striving
  • Dedicate means to set apart—you're choosing to make these places sacred by consistently inviting God's presence through prayer.
  • Your church represents the larger body of believers. When a church is a space of prayer, it becomes a house of spiritual covering, unity, and power—where needs are lifted, hearts are softened, and God is glorified.
  • Your home is the center of everyday life. Making it a space of prayer means you’re creating an atmosphere where God’s peace, guidance, and presence dwell—from mealtimes and bedtime prayers to spontaneous moments of gratitude or intercession.
Prayer
"God, we choose Your presence over our plans. Help us trust You and follow Your lead."
Family Activity
Sit quietly together for one minute and invite the Holy Spirit to speak.

Week 5:  Freedom & Healing

Freedom Has a Purpose
"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery". Galatians 5:1

Christ freed you—don’t chain yourself back to what He already broke off.

Pray for Personal and Family Breakthrough
  • Surrender Fully – Let go of anything standing in the way of God’s work (fear, sin, control).
  • Pray Boldly – Ask specifically for what you need—healing, restoration, clarity.
  • Stand Together – Pray in unity as a family, trusting God to move in His power and timing.
Prayer
"Jesus, thank You for setting us free. Heal what’s broken and break what binds us."
Family Activity
Write what you want freedom from and shred or discard them as a symbol of surrender.

Week 6:  The Next Generation

A Promise for Every Generation
"And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.". Joel 2:28

God promises that he will pour out His Spirit on all people—young and old, sons and daughters. It’s a reminder that God empowers every generation to hear His voice and fulfill His purpose.

Pray Over Kids, Students, and Young Adults
Lord, we lift up our kids, students, and young adults to you.
Fill them with your Spirit, guide their steps, and protect their hearts. Give them courage to stand for truth, wisdom to make right choices, and a deep love for you that grows stronger every day. Amen.
Prayer
"God, pour out Your Spirit on every person in our home and use us to share Your truth and love."
Family Activity
Write a blessing for each family member and place it somewhere visible.

Week 7:  Salvation & Return

Embraced by Grace
"So he got up and went to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him". Luke 15:20

Pray for Prodigals and Those Far from God
No one is ever too far for God to reach.

Join us in praying for sons, daughters, friends, and family members who’ve wandered from the faith. Ask God to soften hearts, open eyes, and draw them back home with His love and grace. Let’s believe together for restoration and redemption—because the Father still runs to meet them.
Prayer
"Father, we pray for those who are far from You. Call them home and use us to show them the way."
Family Activity
Make a prayer list of names and pray over it daily.

Week 8:  Unity & Purity

The Bond of Perfect Unity
"Bear with each other and forgive one another... And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity". Colossians 3:13–14

Pray for Relational Healing and Purity of Heart
Ask God to mend what’s been broken—between friends, family, and within your own heart. Pray for humility to forgive, courage to reconcile, and purity that reflects Christ in every relationship. Let love and grace lead the way.
Prayer
"Jesus, thank You for Your forgiveness. Help us love and forgive one another."
Family Activity
Say one encouraging thing to each family member.

Week 9:  Outpouring & Mission

You Will Be My Witnesses
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses…” Acts 1:8

Pray for God's Spirit to Move and Send Us Out
Ask God to move powerfully through His Spirit and to send us with purpose.

Seek a fresh outpouring that ignites boldness, compassion, and a heart for the lost. Let His Spirit fill you—then go, empowered to make a difference wherever He leads.
Prayer
"Holy Spirit, fill us and send us to love our neighbors and impact our world."
Family Activity
Write a simple family mission statement and place it somewhere visible.
