Prayer & Fasting Devotional | Day 1
DAY 1: FOR THE NEXT BREAKTHROUGH by John Hime
Scripture Focus: 1 Chronicles 14:8-11
8 When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, they went up in full force to search for him, but David heard about it and went out to meet them. 9 Now the Philistines had come and raided the Valley of Rephaim; 10 so David inquired of God: “Shall I go and attack the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hands?”
The Lord answered him, “Go, I will deliver them into your hands.”
11 So David and his men went up to Baal Perazim, and there he defeated them. He said, “As waters break out, God has broken out against my enemies by my hand.” So that place was called Baal Perazim.
Often when we think of a breakthrough, we only think of “getting through something”. But notice in the scriptures what is the first thing David did when he faced adversity? Answer: “And David inquired of God”.
The key to true spiritual breakthrough is knowing your identity in Christ. We need to seek the Lord daily and make sure that before we “do”, we know what it is we’re supposed to be doing. Then, when we have clarity, move in faith knowing that God will break through our obstacles like “ a breakthrough of water”.
Prayer: "Lord, you have promised to go before us and to make our path straight. I pray that your Holy Spirit would speak to each of our hearts today so that we might know your anointing over each person in this room. As we seek You, let our hearts clearly hear your voice, and our spiritual eyes to see the path you’ve laid before us. It is in that confidence that we can stand firm knowing that you as Baal Perazim will go ahead to conquer our enemies so that we can experience the breakthrough you have ordained in our lives. We ask this in your Holy name. Amen"

Application:
- Spend 15-30 minutes per day this week just inquiring of the Lord for whatever situation you are facing.
- Don’t petition for the outcome you want to see; seek his will and then pray for the strength to move in confidence.
